With an estimated 78 percent of job seeking-millennials and 73 percent of Generation Xers using mobile devices as they consider their next career move, today’s employers need to evolve their recruitment strategies to meet the needs of modern, on-the-go job seekers.

Not only do candidates want to easily search and find information about a job and a company via their mobile device, they also want to respond quickly to job advertisements and recruiter inquiries at any time of the day or night. Furthermore, a good mobile strategy also works in an employers’ favor by reducing an often-lengthy recruitment cycle.

To help employers effectively navigate the landscape of mobile recruiting and maximize the effectiveness of their efforts, the experts at LOCALiQ RECRUITMENT have put together a list of mobile Do’s and Don’ts to ensure success.

DO have a mobile optimized career site. This means that your mobile site should not just be a smaller version of your desktop site. Mobile is a different experience entirely and employers should treat it as such. It should be simple for job seekers to navigate using their mobile devices, with sharp visuals, concise content, and clickable buttons that take them where they need to go throughout the mobile site. Today’s mobile users expect a first-class mobile experience, so if a company hasn’t adapted, they’ll likely lose out on valuable opportunities to attract and engage the very best people.

DON’T list jobs on your mobile site and then require that the interested candidate go to complete an application or get additional information on their desktop. That extra step becomes a massive obstacle in the candidate’s job-seeking journey and most won’t go to the next step, which leads us to our next DO…

DO simplify your application process so it can be completed via mobile – from beginning to end.  One way to achieve this is by offering a one-click apply feature. One-click apply allows candidates to apply to a position with the click of a button and offers candidates a concise snapshot of the job description. One-click apply can also prevent candidates from abandoning a lengthy application process.

DON’T just think of your mobile recruitment strategy as a vehicle to attract young candidates. The facts are clear that while more than nine-in-ten millennials (92 percent) own smartphones, Gen Xers and baby boomers aren’t far behind. 85 percent of Gen Xers and 67 percent of baby boomers own smart phones and are using social media at similar rates. Whatever age group you’re looking at to fill a certain position, mobile is where they are.

DO incorporate automated text messages. Text messages are an effective way to instantly boost your mobile recruiting strategy. Candidates are interested in a simple and speedy way to communicate with employers and recruiters, while companies are looking to keep a good candidate’s attention. By using text messages, employers are able to keep up with candidates, give updates, and even schedule interviews.

DON’T underestimate the power of social media. Mobile and social go hand in hand. One cannot be achieved without the other, so use social media to your advantage. According to the LOCALiQ RECRUITMENT Survey, active job seekers are more likely to visit social media sites when researching a company and determining their reputation. Leverage social media as a way to elevate your company’s brand, as well as connect with potential candidates on a deeper level.

DO consult with mobile recruiting experts. For many organizations, they don’t have the time or resources to effectively execute a mobile recruiting strategy on their own. That’s why there are resources and experts that can help you achieve your goals, from optimizing your mobile site, to establishing a successful social engagement campaign. Seek advice and discover the best solutions for your organization’s needs.
