One month (almost) down, 11 more to go in 2019. Your marketing and business plans are probably already underway, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for a bit of expert advice! We wanted to know what business owners should be doing this year to help them reach their goals, stand out from the competition, and connect with consumers. So, we sought out some expert advice.

Here’s what they had to say:

Use video to share your story.

Businesses need to connect with consumers in a way that resonates with them using meaningful content. Videos that tell your story and allow you to share testimonials about your business give consumers a way to connect with you in a different format that works for them.
Julian Placino, Recruiter, Podcaster, & Training Entrepreneur

Talk to your customers and prospects.

Find out why they choose your company over everyone else (note: you will get multiple answers because people buy for different reasons). Then, make sure everything you do highlights your unique selling propositions (USPs). With a solid CRM system and better data on your customers/prospects, you can finally deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time.
Brian Moran, CEO, Small Business Edge

Leverage technology to drive effectiveness.

Businesses should be thinking about how to leverage the dozens and dozens of technology tools and solutions to drive efficiencies and effectiveness. By leveraging tools and technology, businesses can better grow their business without relying solely on hiring additional people – which in this current economy is among the most challenging issues businesses face.
Neal Polachek, Advisor to the Local SMB Tech Space

Never forget the customer experience.

The customer continues to drive the company’s direction, more and more. It’s important to keep them at the center of what you’re doing.
Peter Shankman, Author, Entrepreneur, Futurist

Whatever ways you can digitize their business, you should, while also focusing on shoring up customer service in every way possible. Ensuring that customers and clients have a sound experience is paramount.
Andre Archimbaud, Sr. Digital Marketing Consultant & The Growth Lab Show Co-Host

Get personal.

Finding ways to get more and more specific with their language so the experience feels more authentic and intimate. Success for businesses is less a sheer “numbers game,” and more of an engagement game. Consider: How can you help your customers feel really connected to you and loyal to your brand and products? What can you give them that no one else can?
Hillary Weiss, Messaging Strategist, Brand Consultant, Copywriter

Know that you don’t have to do it all.

Too many businesses are trying to do it all. You can either do lots of things and be mediocre at all of them, or do one thing and be the best at it. It’s time to focus on that one thing. What’s the product or service that BEST suits your customers or that performs the highest? How can you contribute your unique skills to knocking it out of the park? Focus on that one thing this year for maximum growth and impact. Set an annual goal, but then break it down into quarterly, monthly, weekly, and even daily goals. With a small, incremental process, even massive goals are achievable.
Jess Tyson, Director of Calm, Don’t Panic Management
